Impacting our community through partnerships

Building Stronger Communities

At Walmer, we believe stronger communities are built together. Through partnerships with local organizations—including the Avenue Road Food Bank, TAS, Matthew House Toronto, the Downie & Wenjack Fund, Community Fridges Toronto, and the Bowery Project—we’re able to extend practical help, compassion, and dignity to neighbours across our city. Together, we’re meeting real needs, supporting newcomers, addressing food insecurity, and creating spaces of belonging and reconciliation.

PARTNERSHIP IMPACT STORIES

COMMUNITY FRIDGES TORONTO

Walmer is honoured to partner with Community Fridges Toronto, a network that provides free, accessible, and stigma-free food support across the city. Our on-site fridge and pantry is open to everyone—take what you need, when you need it, or give what you can to help a neighbour.

By stocking the fridge with fresh food and essential items, we join a citywide movement that believes no one should go hungry. Whether you’re dropping off a donation or picking up something you need, you are part of a caring community where dignity and generosity come first.

PARTNERSHIP IMPACT STORIES

Bowery Project Partnership

Walmer is delighted to partner with the Bowery Project in caring for a community garden on our property. The garden gives us a simple but meaningful way to grow fresh food, learn together, and connect with our neighbours throughout the warmer months. It has become a gentle gathering place where people can pause, plant, water, and share in the joy of watching things grow. Through this partnership, we join a larger effort to support local food access and nurture community right here in our neighbourhood.

WALMER ROAD

LEGACY SPACE

Walmer is proud to partner with TAS in collaboration with the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund to create and maintain the Walmer Road Legacy Space. Legacy Spaces are safe, welcoming places where conversations and education about the true history of Canada and our collective journey toward reconciliation are encouraged and supported. The artwork on the doors of the Walmer Road Legacy Space is the work of Métis artist Dani Kastelein, the seating was designed by Brook McIlroy Indigenous Design Studio, and the 13 moons located on the seating (not shown in this picture) were designed by Onkwehon:we/Anishinaabe artist and community developer, Lindsey Lickers.

PARTNER IMPACT STORIES

Matthew House

Walmer has been a long-time partner of Matthew House, a Toronto organization that works to restore refugees' dignity by providing shelter and support in a welcoming, home-like setting. Many refugees arrive with little more than a small bag and need practical support. Matthew

House ensures that their individual needs are met and empowers refugees to restart their lives in Canada.
