Scripture for Sunday, April 26

Luke 15:1-10

Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, "This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them."

So he told them this parable: "Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices.

And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

"Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Speaker: Elaine Poproski

Message Topic: These parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin speak to God's great joy every time a sinner finds their way to God.

Music

Listen to one of our newer songs.

This upbeat song is a declaration of praise, even when things are going badly. It encourages us to remember all the ways we have seen God's goodness in the past, so we can trust in his goodness in the present and in the future.

Communion - this Sunday

Communion is a symbolic reenactment of the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples. The bread (gluten-free) and juice symbolize his death, point to his resurrection, and remind us that through his death he defeated the power of sin and death over us. Everyone is free to choose for themselves whether to participate or not.

Walking Together in Unity

Sunday, April 19, 2026

This sermon, presented by Jennifer Lau, the Executive Director of Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM), invites us to consider what it means to walk in unity with the global Church. We are encouraged to consider the cost of being a "proclaimer of freedom and good news, as Jesus was," with a particular emphasis on the cost of our willingness to be present, to be personally transformed, and to love deeply and without restraint.

Click HERE to Read Ephesians 4:25-32.

Questions for Reflection (Adults)

  1. Why do you think it is tempting to define freedom as "doing whatever I want"?
  2. Which of the three "costs" stood out to you the most? Why?
  3. Being present
  4. Being transformed
  5. Loving deeply
  6. What makes unity in the Church difficult right now?
  7. What would it look like for your church to be a visible witness of freedom, justice, and love in your community?

Questions for Reflection (Children)

  1. When you hear the word "freedom," what comes to mind?
  2. Can you think of a time you disagreed with someone? Was it easier to keep talking or to walk away? Why is it important to keep talking?
  3. What do you think it means when the Church is described as a Body?
  4. How can Christians in your city stand with Christians in other parts of the world?
