Scripture for Sunday, June 7

Hebrews 4:14-16, Acts 1:21-26

Hebrews 4:14-16

Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Acts 1:21-26

“So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection.” So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed and said, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place[a] in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was added to the eleven apostles.

Speaker: Leanne Friesen

Message Topic: And Then They Prayed. The book of Acts is full of stories of great miracles and movements of God. In all cases, first the people prayed, and then the miracles happened.

Music

Listen to one of our newer songs.

This song is a beautiful prayer for mercy. It reminds us that God hears us. It reminds us of our call to pray for each other and it gives us words for that prayer.

Communion - this Sunday

Communion is a symbolic reenactment of the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples. The bread (gluten-free) and juice symbolize his death, point to his resurrection, and remind us that through his death he defeated the power of sin and death over us. Everyone is free to choose for themselves whether to participate or not.

DIG DEEPER into one of our recent sermons

Jesus Sees Me

Sunday, May 31, 2026

This sermon emphasizes the powerful truth that Jesus sees us in our pain, loneliness, and struggles, even when we feel invisible to others.

Questions for Reflection (Adults)

  1. Have you ever experienced a season when you felt unseen, forgotten, or isolated? How does the reminder that Jesus sees you speak into that experience?
  2. The lepers cried out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” What areas of your life are you bringing—or need to bring—to Jesus for mercy and healing?
  3. The lepers were healed “as they went.” How might God be inviting you to move forward in faith, even when circumstances have not yet changed?
  4. The central message of the sermon is, “Jesus sees me.” How would truly believing this affect the way you face your current challenges, fears, or uncertainties?

Questions for Reflection (Children)

  1. How do you think the ten lepers felt when people stayed away from them?
  2. Why do you think Jesus stopped to help the lepers, even though he was busy on his journey?
  3. Have you ever felt left out or lonely? How does knowing that Jesus sees you help in those moments?
  4. Who is someone at school, church, or in your neighbourhood who might feel left out? How could you help them feel seen and included?
